The crater measures about 20km across, with walls up to 600m high, creating a natural enclosure for approximately 30,000 animals including the rare black rhino, large prides of lions, and thousands of wildebeest and zebra. The crater floor is 260 km² and sits at 1,800m above sea level, creating its own unique microclimate with morning mists that often blanket the crater floor.

For earlier flights, we can arrange a packed breakfast and direct transfer from Ngorongoro. The drive from Ngorongoro to the airport takes approximately 4-5 hours, including a stop for lunch. We can arrange day rooms in Arusha if you have a late evening flight.
